If it is over 500,000...actually, if it's over 100,000 you have ALSO got a major misunderstanding on that topic too.
It's NOT that you're being taught wrong. It's that there are ELEVEN types of web sites (count 'em 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11) And everyone is getting the 11 types of web sites and 3 primary purposes all jacked up and they're trying to mix 'n match. You CAN'T do that and get results. You just can't do it. Don't care who you are. Don't care what you sell. Just don't care. I know that I know that I know what works. What doesn't. And why.

They're overwhelmed because they're following complex-compound marketing systems that they THINK work -- and the end result is still an anemic Alexa, terrible traffic, low conversions -- and they're overwhelmed!
The cause of feeling overwhelmed is CONFUSION. You're mixing and matching web site models, traffic models and conversion models.

And the whole blasted thing comes down to mixing and matching models. Not knowing your models. Not really understanding some of the most stupid, basic, simple things about what does and doesn't make money in online marketing.
OK. I'm done. Finished ranting and raving.
If you want to get your brain straight. Get your web site or sites fixed. Greatly simplify what you're doing. End your confusion. Fix your overwhelm.
